Charl Haasbroek

Charl Haasbroek

Charl Haasbroek arrived with his wife and two children in 2008, with no experience in the dairy industry. With hard work and determination he rose to Farm Manager/Contract Milker in three years, and has gone on to become a leader in best practice in the dairy industry. Farm Adviser Bruce Thomas says of Charl: “one of the most professional guys I have ever worked with – easily one of the best pasture managers even against New Zealand farmers who have been farming their whole lives”.

Since he has taken over the management of the farm in Tirau, Charl has increased farm production by 153,000 milk solids, or 71%, representing a massive increase in annual income for the farm of $1.3 million in the 2013/14 season.

Farm Owners, Les and Gwen Symes have been especially impressed with Charl’s staff management skills “The wisdom and maturity Charl and his wife Yolanda show as staff leaders is outstanding – One of the Haabroek’s outstanding qualities is their care and compassion for other staff families. We believe that the Haasbroek family emigrating to the country has been South Africa’s loss and New Zealand’s gain”.
